Two Sides to Network Marketing Home Businesses

As a pet parent, you rely on other people to help you with your pets. Veterinarians, trainers, groomers, and pet sitters are just a few of these people. With the price of pet parenting rising, you know you need more disposable cash.

You decide to invest in one of the simplest forms of home business called network marketing to earn some extra money. You are told that all you have to do is develop your marketing skills and recruit others that share your passion.

Of course, you want to become a professional network marketer so that you can realize your dreams. Perhaps you want to have more pets. Maybe you want to support Pet Rescues. The list goes on…However, you will start off as a lousy network marketer because you lack the skills and mindset. What do I mean by “lousy?”

There are two sides to the MLM story. The side that is presented to you is one of prosperity, time freedom and lifestyle. That’s why you buy into the dream. Perhaps you want to stay home or have the freedom to travel and have more fun with your pets.

If you are recruited by a successful network marketer who cares about you (and your pets), your chances of achieving success are much greater. However, if you are recruited by an acquaintance or family friend that is still clueless and struggling to make their first dime or keep their team, you will probably be a lousy network marketer until you master the necessary skills.

My Early Years As A Network Marketer

In the early 1970’s,  I owned a dog grooming salon. I was enrolled by a person representing a pet product company to sell those shampoos, sprays and supplements. That person lived about 50 miles away.

I went to one meeting at her home to learn more about the company and how to market the products but I remained clueless about the true potential of earning the most money with the company.

People were not pampering their pets in the 1970’s the way they do today. I sold very few products to my clients. The company decided to no longer carry the pet products. Because I was not interested in selling their products for people,  I quit.

In truth, I was no more than a customer since I never promoted the business opportunity to others. So I quit. I would have thought I made a mistake in joining this company…but I was clueless.

In 2002, I was in another traditional pet business when I happened upon a new line of pet products sold by network marketers. This time, the products worked and I received better, but not great, training from my recruiter…only because she was more interested in her own success and not mine.

I survived my second round as a network marketer by bringing in teammates.  I also spoke to more people who wanted healthier pets.  Through my example, they saw that this could also be a way for them to earn more money.

Because many people that I talked to weren’t interested or joined and quit when they realized they actually had to work their business, I wondered when I would have my best  year. You may think that your best year is when you can actually pay your bills and earn a respectable income. It is more than that.

Financial Prosperity As a Pet Parent/ Network Marketer

You can work until you’re frazzled to gain recognition and money but financial prosperity is only a part of the equation. You can have all the trappings of a highly successful entrepreneur but your best year will happen when you are building upon your relationships.

Think of it this way… If you show your dog, cat, or horse, you show to win but to win you must develop a loving and trusting bond with that pet.  It is important to be aware of your mindset.

Don’t become so busy making a living that you forget to make a life. You will discover that your life is empty because you have not built relationships. You can make friends around the world on the Internet until you can meet them in person and thank them for their moral support while you were growing your business.

Your Best Year As A Network Marketer

Your best year in a home business will  happen when you calm down long enough from your activities to experience genuine serenity and balance. If you see yourself as a lousy networker that no one else wants to follow, it is time for painful self-reflection and a willingness to make a dramatic change.

By altering your course,  you can live a life of balance, serenity and prosperity. It is then that you are a great network marketer and a happy pet parent.

I understand how important it is to share my own embarrassing failures with you so that  you can accept your challenges in the future. You can move beyond being lousy through building your skills quickly and leveraging your efforts with a strong team. This is what enables you to become a person who lives a life they love. This is when you know that you are a great network marketer.

Great Network Marketers Follow a Proven Roadmap

Remember, as a pet parent, you know that the costs of living with pets is constantly rising. If you are ready to grow your income and discover other pet parents that you can aid, you must be mentored by the best in the business.

It is so much easier to make money on the Internet today. By mastering social media skills and branding yourself so that you attract people to you, you will be able to grow your business quickly.

  1. Good mentorship definitely makes a difference. I’ve had two internships (one with a good mentor, one bad) and I could definitely tell the difference in my work!

    1. Your book has value but you won’t know just how much value until you start collecting thank yous from those that appreciate what they have learned through you…which will help you promote your book. 🙂

  2. I love this quote “our best year in a home business will happen when you calm down long enough from your activities to experience genuine serenity and balance.” This is something I’ve been learning. When I stress too much about making things happen ON MY TIME I done see results. When I take a step back, do something else and come back I find my results have improved. Good for you taking the chance to try again. I’ll have to check out your link.

  3. Wonderful post. Marketing is something we are always struggling with and something that we are always trying to improve on. It’s hard when your day job (Psychiatric Nurse) is so mentally demanding.
